WHAT IS A WOOD CHIPPER?
A wood chipper is a mechanical device for shredding residual wood. Wood chippers are used to shred bulky, large-volume wood waste and reduce its volume.
In a wood chipper, powerful electric or combustion engines or tractors are used to drive knife systems which smash or cut wood into small pieces.
Wood clippings from trees, bushes, hedge cuttings and other bulky garden waste are shredded into quickly compostable pieces by the wood chipper. Chopped wood is used to cover flower beds in winter as frost protection or reduce weed growing speed. The less green stuff the material has, the better it is suitable for a wood chipper.
WHICH WOOD CHIPPER DO YOU NEED?
Garden chippers are available in different designs and performance levels and are mostly driven by electric motors or petrol engines (for mobile use). Only large chippers are powered by tractors with a PTO shaft or stationary Diesel engines. Basically there is no limit to branch diameter. The thicker the clippings, the more powerful the motors have to be.
Regular garden chippers are designed for branches up to 4.5 cm thick. Victory garden chippers can even replace large wood shredders, because they can process wood diameters of up to 12 cm with their powerful petrol engines.
WOOD CHIPPER WITH INFEED ROLLER AND HIGH EFFICIENCY
For professional use, wood chippers come with hydraulically driven feed rollers that automatically drag in the branches. Such wood chippers come with a high output chute, so that the shredded material can be blown onto even large trailers.
Small garden shredders normally have an internal container, which has to be emptied fairly often. Blockages can either be removed by changing the turning direction of the hydraulic rollers, or by opening the housing and removing the branches manually. The stronger the air suction the wood chipper can create, the fewer blockages will interrupt your work flow.
Humid material can more easily cause blockages in the output funnel. Therefore its recommended that firs or thuja branches should be stored for 2 or 3 weeks after cutting so that most of the moisture can escape.
BUY WOOD CHIPPERS FROM VICTORY TRACTOR
"Second generation" garden chippers have a longer infeed funnel, so that any potential contact with the turning knives is avoided.
Wood chippers with an active feeding mechanism come with a correspondingly longer intake funnel. Modern professional wood chippers with self-feed, such as the Victory BX-72 or BX-102, have emergency shut-off safety bars that switch off the rollers as soon as pressure is exerted on the hopper edge.
Wood chippers like the drum chipper Victory GTS-1500 or the new disc chipper Victory BX-2000 do not have an active feed mechanism, but the branch material is cut off up to 160 times per second, depending on the engine RPM. This enormously high cutting speed drags in branches professionally.
If you buy a Victory gasoline-engine powered drum or disc chipper, rotating knives draw in the branches automatically.
